Itinerary

As generally recommended, one day is added at the front end of the trip as safety for unexpected problems.

Thursday: Leave Seattle/Nashville

Friday: 

- AM: Arrive Heathrow, depart for Inverness
- PM: Arrive Inverness, spend/relaxing day in hotel

Saturday: 

- AM: Inverness City Daily Walking Tour ($15 pp)
- PM: Casual walking around center of town 

Sunday:

- AM: Personal walk-about
- 3:30 PM: Pickup to BARGE at Kingsmill Hotel



Monday thru Friday: On BARGE

The barge reverses week to week and cruise direction is unimportant since transfers remain Inverness regardless of cruise direction. 




Sunday: Inverness to Banavie (do)

Monday: Banavie to Lagan Locks (do)
- Excursion to area of Glencoe

Tuesday: Lagan Locks to Kytra (do)
- Cruise across Loch Oich

Wednesday: Kytra to Fort Augustus (da)
- Demonstrate birds of prey

Thursday: Fort Augustus to Dochgarroch (do)
- Pre-historic burial site Clava Cairns 

Friday: Dochgarrock to Muirtown (do)
- Culloden Moor
- Dalwhinnie Distillery



Saturday:Inverness
- AM (by 11 AM) Return from barge
- PM: Lunch/walk-about, hotel 

Sunday:

- AM: Flight to Heathrow
- PM: Flight to States



OPTIONAL - Add a few days around Edinburg

After the barge trip, hop a four-hour train from Inverness to Edinburg during late afternoon. Relax in the hotel. The plan is to spend four nights in Edinburg, spend a couple of days touring the city and rent a mini-van for a day trip/tour to Pitlochry area and another day/tour to the Stirling area.
 
Saturday: Inverness to Edinburg 
- AM (by 11 AM) Return from barge in Inverness
- 3 PM: 4-hour ride train to Edinburg
- 7 PM: Rent car in airport/rail station and drive to hotel

Sunday:

After breakfast in the morning grab an Uber to the Edinburg Castle. The Princess Street Gardens are next to the castle and Calton Hills is a couple blocks from there. 

As an option, take a short drive south of Edinburg to the
Rosslyn Chapel made famous by The DaVinci Code. Return back to the hotel.

- AM: After breakfast drive/tour Edinburg Castle.
- PM: Lunch near castle and walk a couple of blocks over to Princess Street Gardens are next to the castle and Calton Hills. Ride to Rosslyn Chapel (of DaVinci Code)


Monday: Pilochery

Our excursion is based on Two Scots Abroad is an award-winning travel site who write ridiculously useful guides + create packing lists. Their Perthshire Road Map visits Queen's View, KillieCrankie Gorge, Blair Athol Distillery, and other small towns. 


- AM: After breakfast drive 76 miles and tour Blair Castle 
- PM: Return to Pitlochery and roam 71 miles around countryside and drive 79 miles through St. Andrews back to Edinburg.


Tuesday: Stirling

Early in the morning drive 45-minutes to Stirling. During the road visit Stirling Castle, National Wallace Museum, Battle of Bannockburn, Dunblane Cathedral, and Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Drive 60-minutes back to the Edinburg hotel.

- AM: Drive 33 miles and tour Battle of Bannochburn and then tour Stirling Castle 
- PM: Drive and tour National Wallace Museum and Dunblane Cathedral and a 140-mile loop through LL & TTNP back to Edinburg

Wednesday: 

At 7:35AM Fly from Edinburg to Heathrow
